Fair Housing Legal Support Center & Clinic

Fair Housing Legal Clinic

Why wait until graduation to practice law? The Fair Housing Legal Clinic enable degree candidates to gain practical legal experience and bolster his or her resume at the same time.

In addition to learning the substance of fair housing law, the Clinic offers an opportunity to participate in federal court litigation and sometimes in state and administrative proceedings. You'll learn how to investigate and prepare cases, interview clients, manage case files, and master the latest version of TimeMatters, a legal office case management and timekeeping software.

During the course of a semester, interns may have the opportunity to help draft pleadings, prepare motions and hearings for a temporary restraining order and preliminary injunction, conduct discovery, and assist in trials and hearings or possible appeals.

Louis Raymond, JD 2012

Working at the Fair Housing Clinic has helped me to learn how to not only recognize issues and prepare for trial, but also how to work with clients—skills I believe will set me a part from my peers.

Student attorneys have a unique opportunity to participate in community outreach service and, along with clinic faculty and staff, regularly make general fair housing presentations to individuals, groups, and agencies, representing all protected classes under the Fair Housing Act, of their rights under the law.

Students engaging with the Fair Housing Clinic for the first time should enroll in the Basic Fair Housing Clinic and must register for both the class and clinic components. Students who have previously taken the Basic Fair Housing Clinic can register for the Advanced Fair Housing Clinic. The advanced clinic may be repeated.
